How is health defined?

According to the WHO, HEALTH is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. Mental health is of crucial importance as it enables people to realize their potential, cope with the challenges of life, and contribute to society. It is becoming increasingly important to provide solutions that support overall and mental health, reduce stress, improve sleep, and promote detoxification.

Treatment methods

Human health is influenced by complex biochemical processes that require an adequate supply of nutrients and the avoidance of harmful substances. Exposure to environmental toxins can disrupt these processes and lead to long-term health consequences (WHO, 2013). Heavy metals and persistent toxins accumulate in the body over time and pose a significant health risk. Studies suggest that dietary changes and technologies such as exposure to far-infrared radiation (FIR) can support detoxification by promoting the excretion of heavy metals through sweating (Blanchemaison et al., 2012). This study aims to investigate the effects of multiple exposures to FIR in combination with negative ions (NAI) in the MLX i3 Dome on stress levels, well-being, and bodily detoxification.

Negative ions (NAI)

Negative air ions occur in large quantities in nature, for example in forests and at waterfalls, and are said to have a positive effect on human health and relaxation. Negative air ion (NAI) generators are now widespread, and many electrical appliances feature this function. Studies confirm their positive effects, such as the reduction of anxiety and the improvement of cognitive performance (Nakane, 2003). Negative ions have already been used clinically to treat conditions such as burns, asthma, and allergic rhinitis (Kellogg, 1984). In addition, research findings indicate that negative ions help in managing stress and inflammation, improve immune function, and promote homeostasis (Tyagi et al., 2008).

Far-infrared (FIR)

FIR therapy is frequently used to relieve muscle pain and promote recovery. It increases peripheral blood circulation through vasodilation, which helps reduce edema, inflammation, and pain (Lin et al., 2007). Exposure to FIR energy can also support the elimination of metabolic waste products and provide a sense of well-being.
The combination of FIR and NAI exposure, such as in salt caves or in the MLX i3 DOME, can further improve immune function (Zajac et al., 2014).

It is assumed that a ten-session program can reduce stress, increase well-being, and support immune function and the management of oxidative stress.

Study Method

The following study was conducted with 21 participants (aged 35 to 65 years) suffering from severe anxiety, with a focus on mood, immune defense, and detoxification. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of the MLX i3 Dome on detoxification, immune function, and mood. Participants were randomly assigned to the experimental group (Gexp, N=11) or the control group (Gcon, N=10).

Over a period of four weeks, Gexp completed ten sessions (of 20 minutes each) in the MLX i3 Dome. Assessments were conducted before and after the program, including blood tests for trace elements, pain levels, mood (POMS, HADS), and sleep (ISI, FIRST, SSQ). Sleep was monitored four days prior to and throughout the study.

For Gexp participants, heart rate variability (HRV) was measured at each session, and well-being was assessed before and after the sessions. Resting blood pressure and body weight were measured at the first and last sessions. Gcon participants completed similar assessments over the same four-week period without intervention.

Summary of all results

This study investigated the effects of a 10-session MLX i3 Dome program on well-being. Compared to a control group, improvements in immune function, detoxification, stress levels, sleep quality, and overall well-being were observed.

Immune function
  • The lymphocyte count increased by 15.9 %, thereby improving the body's ability to neutralize pathogens.
  • Zinc levels rose by 19.4 %, which supported the immune response and inhibited viral replication.
Body detoxification
  • Mercury and lead levels decreased by 16.8 % and 8.2 %, respectively, while no changes were observed in the control group.
  • The copper content increased by 20.1 %, which improved antioxidant protection against oxidative stress.
Stress relief
  • Blood pressure dropped significantly after one session (-9.4 mmHg systolic, -8.9 mmHg diastolic), with sustained effects after one month.
  • Cortisol levels decreased by 17.3 %, indicating a lower level of stress.
  • The scores for anxiety and depression decreased by 4.0 and 3.5 points, respectively, showing a positive impact on mental health.
Global well-being
  • Well-being ratings improved significantly (+1.02 points), with sustained effects across sessions.
  • The Total Mood Disturbance (TMD) decreased by 16.7 points, indicating improved emotional balance.
  • Muscle and joint pain (DOMS) decreased from 5.4 to 3.4, indicating fewer complaints.
Sleep quality
  • Subjective ratings of sleep quality increased from 16.4 to 19.8 points.
  • The severity of insomnia decreased by 4.6 points, indicating fewer sleep disturbances and less stress.

Overall, the MLX i3 Dome program has proven to be effective in improving physical and mental well-being over the course of the 10 sessions.
