The ion content in the air is of fundamental importance for our health and aging. In fact, a deficiency of negatively charged ions plays a significant role in a variety of health problems. On the other hand, oxygen molecules that are artificially negatively charged can be valuable therapeutic allies in the treatment of numerous ailments. In this post, we want to show how negatively charged ions [O2(-)] can positively influence general health and our aging process. …And why this „power ingredient from oxygen“ should be offered instead of coffee for refreshment in cosmetic institutes and medical wellness practices!
The air we breathe contains negatively and positively charged ions: Anions (= Negative ions, they support respiration and improve oxygen uptake) and Cations (=Positive ions, which make breathing difficult). Thus, it is clear that air quality depends on the relative proportion of these negative and positive ions in the total amount of ambient air. In a clean environment, the ratio of the two ion types is approximately equal and does not pose any problems. An optimal amount of negative ions in the air is about 2000/cm³.3. However, this can now only be found in nature (in forests, in the mountains, at waterfalls, after thunderstorms, or by the sea).
The progressive pollution of air in general, but especially the highly positively charged air in urban areas (cities, villages, industrial zones, etc.) leads to a variety of pathological processes that are closely linked to the ionic alteration of the air. In particular, smoke, static electricity, electromagnetic fields, various activities, modern materials, as well as heating and air conditioning systems have led to a reduction in the ionic balance in the environment. Thus, the content of negative ions in cities, densely populated and shopping centers, as well as indoor spaces such as offices, etc. (especially when they are equipped with many electrical devices) is normally only around 100/cm³.3 or less.
As we all know, free oxygen radicals are produced naturally in the human body. These are highly reactive. However, their reaction with cells can damage them. That said, a healthy body has defense mechanisms to neutralize these radicals. However, if there are too many of them, the immune system can be damaged, and the body’s aging process is accelerated. Positive ions contribute to this aging process, whereas negative ions slow it down.
Too high a proportion of positively charged ions in the human body can have devastating consequences. Positive ions, along with free radicals, cause oxidation of cells throughout the body. The acidity of the blood increases, resulting in increased production of lactic acid. The nervous and immune systems are weakened, leading to premature aging. In addition, all these processes can lead to the development of tumor and cancer cells.
Negative ions support the immune system by reducing free oxygen radicals in the body and counteracting the effects of positive ions. Additionally, the negative charge of the O2-Molecules and microbes in the atmosphere neutralize odors, bind pollutants, and counteract the aging process.
The negative (-) and positive (+) ions are carried by the natural oxygen in the air we breathe. This air consists of 21 % oxygen and 79 % percent nitrogen, along with a few other gases. Of this 21 %, our lungs then regularly release approximately 25 % into the blood for cellular metabolism. If the O2-molecule then enters the cell after extensive «entry checks,» bestowing its negative charge upon it. What happens now? The «+» is already there, the «-» is added, and this provokes an electrical potential difference. The juices begin to flow and life begins. The O2-A molecule that must now function without a negative charge but contains one carbon atom now becomes CO2 (Carbon dioxide) on its way through the interstitium, venous blood, and the lungs back into the air, where it is exhaled and, with luck, regenerated by cosmic radiation. With increasing age, however, this supply of negative ions is no longer sufficient. As the years go by, our bodies increasingly need more oxygen. That's when our degeneration begins... starting around the age of 25.
Let's now consider that a living cell metabolism requires oxygen for the electrical minus (negative ions), and that qualitatively poor oxygen (more positive than negative ions) can no longer effectively combat free radicals. It then becomes clear why we should and must increasingly be concerned about having more negative ions in our breathing air.
